The Warren E. Burger Courthouse remodeling construction was to occur while occupied, until the construction team showed significant savings if the courts moved. This project was to house the temporary court functions in lease space. Translucent glass brings natural light into the courtrooms from public corridors along the window wall. In the courtrooms, the judge’s bench, jury box, witness stand, clerk’s station and attorney tables are all formed with plate steel providing bullet resistance, structure, finish and rapid fabrication. The unified, pragmatic design maintained the dignity and stature of the federal judiciary, while meeting standards of cost effectiveness and construction speed.
