Under the leadership of their president, Dr. Jerstad, the Good Samaritan Society, the nation’s largest non profit supplier of long term care, wished to develop new models of long term care through innovative partnerships. A conference center built on their corporate campus provided overnight stay rooms, meeting spaces, distance learning and teleconference facilities, offices and dining. Turning its back on the nearby interstate, the building wraps itself around a designed landscape of terraces and pools, creating a sense of comfort, calm and reflection. The long east west leg of the building places single loaded overnight stay rooms close to water and far from meeting rooms. Steel columns and steel wind bracing create layered glass walls that connect the gathering rooms with terraces.
