MINNEAPOLIS FEDERAL OFFICE BLDG

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Designed in the early twentieth century Beaux Arts style, the Minneapolis Federal Office Building was recently brought back on line. The facility, built between 1912 and 1915, was never designed to accommodate 21st century security demands and ADA accessibility. In response, the project incorporates a new security lobby and accommodates ADA requirements while preserving the building’s original grand entry experience.

This project addresses the real needs of today’s facilities that demand higher security and accessibility for all while respecting the beauty and integrity of the existing historic structure. Ultimately, the additions and renovations of the new lobby and ancillary spaces, as quiet, modern interventions establish a dialog with the existing space, conditions and materials. This approach addresses the larger scale of the project in terms of security equipment placement and revised circulation flow, as well as smaller scale detailing of new material finishes meeting historic finishes.
