PARK AVENUE LOFTS

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Park Avenue Lofts West is the first building on two new blocks created from former rail yards in Minneapolis’s historic milling district. This four-story building plus penthouse gardens will provide approximately forty market-rate condominium units. In addition to the building design, Snow Kreilich Architects has actively contributed to the master planning of the two blocks. On a large scale, the project’s challenge is to create a residential neighborhood where none has existed before. On a more intimate scale, the challenge is how to create a home in this historically industrial setting.

The building’s units consist of two-story townhomes entered from the street and the courtyard, and flats accessed internally on the third and fourth floors. The inherent variation between upper and lower, street and courtyard units will be further emphasized in the building’s skin: street-facing entries and upper balconies will sit back in the facade, while on the courtyard side these elements will move forward to more actively engage the garden and courtyard spaces.
